REMOVED: elsewhere, everywhere, nowhere is the most complete edition of the Removed series to date. Spanning over a decade, it brings together never-before-seen photographs alongside personal journal entries and behind-the-scenes reflections on a body of work that has traveled the world. The introduction is written by Sherry Turkle, the MIT professor and author whose thinking on our relationship to technology has shaped my own since 2016.
The series began in 2014: phones and devices were quietly taken from people's hands in ordinary moments, and they were photographed in the posture the device left behind. What remains is a still, honest portrait of how present we are with one another, and how often we are not.
This is a copy from the original first printing, signed by hand. Only three remain. When they are gone, the first edition is gone with them.
