I just returned from an incredible trip to New York for my i3 Lecture at SVA. The audience was wildly engaged, and the conversation could have gone all night — the Q&A alone felt like it could’ve stretched into the next morning. I’ll share a more detailed post once the recording of the talk is live in a few short weeks.
In the meantime, I’m thrilled to share that my recent interview with Michael O’Brien on his podcast The Kintsugi Podcast is now available.
This was a deeply energizing conversation — Michael’s work helps so many people rethink and rebuild their lives through reflection, connection, and gratitude, and it was an honor to be part of that.
In this episode, we discuss:
The origins of REMOVED and the story behind physically taking devices away before photographing
How the project reveals both our dependence on and our desire to be free from our screens
The emotional reactions people have when they see themselves and others “without their phones”
What it means to reclaim presence and rebuild shared attention
My book, REMOVED: elsewhere, everywhere, nowhere and my collaboration with Sherry Turkle
How art can shift perspective and open new space for empathy and self-awareness
Thanks again to everyone who came out in New York and to Michael for such a thoughtful exchange.
