Back from New York + New Podcast Episode

I just returned from an incredible trip to New York for my i3 Lecture at SVA. The audience was wildly engaged, and the conversation could have gone all night — the Q&A alone felt like it could’ve stretched into the next morning. I’ll share a more detailed post once the recording of the talk is live in a few short weeks.

In the meantime, I’m thrilled to share that my recent interview with Michael O’Brien on his podcast The Kintsugi Podcast is now available.

This was a deeply energizing conversation — Michael’s work helps so many people rethink and rebuild their lives through reflection, connection, and gratitude, and it was an honor to be part of that.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The origins of REMOVED and the story behind physically taking devices away before photographing

  • How the project reveals both our dependence on and our desire to be free from our screens

  • The emotional reactions people have when they see themselves and others “without their phones”

  • What it means to reclaim presence and rebuild shared attention

  • My book, REMOVED: elsewhere, everywhere, nowhere and my collaboration with Sherry Turkle

  • How art can shift perspective and open new space for empathy and self-awareness

Thanks again to everyone who came out in New York and to Michael for such a thoughtful exchange.
